Winter - Skiing And Boarding In The Chamonix Valley

Your day begins with a great breakfast, croissants, cereal, fruit, and coffee, and then your off to start another fantastic days skiing / boarding, just step outside the door with your skis or board and your off. No hiking along icy paths and roads to the pistes when its on your doorstep!

Chamonix - Les Houches - First a gentle introduction on the blue run that passes the chalet to the Prarion Gondola below (or ski school which is next to the lift) before being whisked up the mountain on the new gondola (new for 2006/7) to the beautiful Prarion ski area (with some of the best views of Mont Blanc).

Famous for the Chamonix / Kandahar World Cup downhill race, Les Houches is much more than just a World Cup ski area. Tree line skiing and magnificent views of the Chamonix Valley below, and the Mont Blanc Massif above, this really is a great area for all abilities and perfect for families.

Chamonix - The Vallée Blanche - For intermediates and advanced skiers, a visit to Chamonix would not be complete without a trip down the Vallée Blanche with a Mountain Guide. 17km long and a descent of 2,800m, it offers spectacular scenery with peaks shaped liked needles, snow bridges crossing crevasses, and fresh powder on its variant routes.

Chamonix - The Grands Montets - Famous for its couloirs and the fearless plunge by Glen Plake in the 'Blizzard of Aaaahhhs'. This is a serious ski area even by Chamonix 's great standards, with advanced skiing on and off the piste. At 3,300m it offers skiing from December, often through to early May. Intermediate skiers should head for the Bochard lift to ski the Bochard red or the Chamois blacks.

Chamonix - Brevent - A must ski area for its sunshine and challenging pistes. The Bozon is a must for the advanced skier, not only for the view across the Chamonix Valley , but for the 'serious challenge' it presents.

Off-piste consists of the Col and steep couloirs. Check out the couloirs below the Plan Praz cable-car on the way up which surprisingly do get skied regularly! With a selection of reds and blues, and being south facing this is also a great place for intermediates.

Chamonix - Flegere - South facing and a favourite with off-piste skiers, but this isn't just an area for experts, as it has a variety of runs to suit all abilities. With its green, blue, red, and black runs, Flegere will keep all abilities happy. Whilst steep, it benefits from some great off-piste runs that are wide (e.g. Combe Lachenal) and in the right conditions are 'picture perfect'.

Chamonix - Le Tour - A haven for beginners and intermediates, with less demanding slopes and gradients than other areas in the valley. Off-piste is mainly through the trees and there is a great drop into Vallorcine for expert skiers.

Chamonix - Vallorcine - Many now combine a morning ski in Le Tour and then pop over into Vallorcine by the Swiss border. It offers some great couloirs and gullies for the off-piste skier. With the recent addition of improved links and pistes this area is well worth a visit with its tree line skiing and a truly authentic mountain village that feels like your taking a step back in time.

PLEASE NOTE: We strongly recommend that all skiers venturing off piste do so under the guidance and instruction of a qualified Mountain Guide from the region.
